Big Valentine’s Day

Woke up to a gorgeous day and our 35th wedding anniversary! Rowan spoilt me with a lovely necklace from a favourite jeweller of mine. Lovely to briefly chat to the kids and get loads of nice messages.

We went out for a snorkel in the dinghy, through the cut in the reef to where it shelves off. The current is always a little hairy out there, but it was a little disappointing, the coral was not in great shape and no big fish, not many parrot fish which we usually see loads of. It was better in the channel of the cut. We went and snorkelled in the calm waters of the protected area round the little island. We had a lovely time swimming with two enormous turtles and saw loads of the giant starfish. We returned to PolePole and decided to move on. I counted over 30 boats, it felt quite crowded to us, I suspect we have been horribly spoiled as this is supposedly quiet.

Leaving the Tobago Cays, and all the boats

We went to a little bay on the other side of Mayreau hoping to have a nice meal at the Swedish restaurant. We took one of their buoys, we had our pick as nobody else was there. Rowan swam ashore to try and book only to discover they had decided to give the staff off on Valentine’s night, very strange! So we landed up eating some delicious lamb chops on the boat with calaloo, delicious local spinach, with some scrummy stuffed peppers that Jonny made. We celebrated the special evening with delicious pink champagne that Sam and Amelia brought. Not a bad way to celebrate Valentine’s Day and 35 years of marriage!

Seeking shade

The meal was slightly interrupted by our gas bottle finally running out, incredible that it’s lasted from the 15th November. Once the new bottle was connected we couldn’t get the gas through, lots of fiddling and frustration. We were just about to give up when Rowan decided to take the connector off, underneath he found the elusive button. Our half cooked rice was saved!
