Repairs day

Rowan had a long list of repairs that required 3 to 4 different workman on the boat. There was a bilge pump to be replaced, strip light to be fixed, charcoal filter to be installed so we could bleach the entire water works and get rid of the smell, the camera on the top of the mast has stopped working so required someone to go up the mast, a few electrical issues to sort etc etc!

The boat was crowded, so I thought I would get out of the way. I had managed to book an Airbnb yesterday about an hours drive away, so I went off to hire a car. I had planned to get it from tomorrow, but they’re closed on a Saturday, so I took it straight away. The smallest vehicle was a little jeep, judging by the steep roads and landscape the 4×4 may be useful. I had planned to walk to the shops, I asked one of the workman if there was a pedestrian walkway and he recommended a taxi. I wanted the exercise, but was very grateful that I had hired a car as it was a very busy road with no pavement and huge road works with pipes being laid, so not a great walk at all.

I follow the Doyle guide to the islands a little too enthusiastically and realise even though the book is only two years old, Covid means it is so often out of date. Under ‘Fun Shopping’ he had mentioned a collaboration of 80 artists at a cafe – sadly all closed and run down. I had a wander around the rather empty malls, definitely more sophisticated than anywhere else we have seen. I did manage to buy two rather lovely tops for the price of one, which was rather exciting!

Back at the marina I went and spent the afternoon reading at the cafe as the boat was still crawling with workman. With no desire to cook on board we ate out at yet another marina restaurant, La Mesa, we had a fantastic meal and Rowan was very impressed with the wine list. Incredibly every single table was taken, we only just managed to get in. I suppose it is a Friday night, but this is the most people we have seen out in a very long time. We have decided it is mainly locals, as there don’t appear to be that many people on their yachts in the marina. It suits us fine having an 8pm curfew!
