Snorkelling from the boat

Rowan got up early to get the rigging people from the dinghy dock at 7am. They turned up and sent the young guy up the mast, with the swell from the big winds, the guy was swinging a good 6 feet either side of the mast which was a bit alarming! Anyhow they managed to clean and lubricate it so that it should be working better now.

We had a great long snorkel from the back of the boat at midday, it is a short swim to the rocky headland where there is plenty of good coral and fish.

Very territorial little chap, kept coming towards us hoping we would disappear. Having read wikipedia, they are amazing that they can live up to 10 years old and are monogamous!

The video below is a Spotted Eagle Ray that Rowan spotted at Frigate Island, the other interesting thing is the sound, we think it may have been a whale or dolphins calling, you may need to turn your sound up.

We had booked into a recommended restaurant on the other side of the island called Sugar Reef. We decided to walk over to get some exercise. We left at 5:30pm which was great to miss the heat of the day when walking up and over the hill. It was still an hours walk along the other side of the island passing a few palm fringed beaches. We made it there just before dark which was very lucky as it is a narrow old road and had a few Saturday night racers on it. The setting was lovely right next to the sea, we enjoyed a Rum punch looking over the windward sea. We had a good meal washed down with a bottle of wine, which we don’t drink much anymore (too expensive for not great wine), we have instead taken a liking to the local rum. I was very pleased to get a taxi all the way back to where the dinghy was docked near PolePole.
