Falling ash all day long

Ugh I hate to think what it is like in St Vincent. We organised cleaners on the boat this morning to clean the ash and wash all the floors and window everywhere. We were so disappointed when we came back at lunchtime to find the cleaners in a dither as no sooner had they washed the boat when more ash landed. There has been low sandy coloured hazy cloud all day which is obviously just depositing ash. No rain today just ash as we hear that the volcano now has a pyroclastic flow, liquid lava running down the slopes which we have just heard has reached the sea. The ash is gritty and sticky, we cant wait to move on, but things are conspiring against us as the wind has died.

We went and had our PCR test done for Dominica, which is where we are definitely headed now. The BVi announced at the last minute (as Rowan predicted as they have done this 3 times already) that they are delaying the opening to yachts until 15 June. We will have departed by then. The Cuban nurse doing the swabs was the most invasive yet as she gave our nostrils a real scrub, really not pleasant as it feels completely wrong how far up they go.

It is so unbelievably hot without wind and someone said the dense cloud seems to lock in the heat. I had to have a shower after changing the sheets I was so hot and dripping with sweat.

In the evening we had supper at one of the marina restaurants with the Canadian family and Sophie who we had met down south. Sophie who runs Alliance Francais and basically works for the French ambassador was told to evacuate Laborie and head back north to Rodney Bay, so her holiday was curtailed. A fun evening but I was knackered and ready for bed in this heat, thank god for our life saving Dyson fan!

I put my order in with Gregory the fruit and veg man, as we will be quarantining for 5 days on the boat in Dominica. The sky is looking great up north away from the volcano.
