A good long walk

We decided to walk around the half of the island we have not seen yet, starting in Clifton town at Jenny’s shop!

View across to Frigate Island, where we plan to go tomorrow.

Interesting volcanic hill shapes.

Having a brief rest in the shade of a Manchineel tree, red paint on the trunk to remind us it is poisonous, you can’t sit under them in the rain.

We finally made it to Sparrow’s Bar, where we had a delicious late lunch of smoked marlin and tuna sashimi. A wonderful spot on a gorgeous little beach. It was good to walk off some of the lunch walking home, up and over to Clifton.

Free roaming cows enjoyed the beach too.

I persuaded Rowan that we couldn’t leave without having a sunset drink at the Happy Island bar. There had been such a crowd yesterday, I thought it would be sociable too. Jonty a real character greeted us, he built the bar himself, on a bed of conch shells. It was a wonderful place for a stunning sunset with a very strong rum punch for me! Sadly we were the only guests. Jonty obviously dj’s for a local radio station and was in full flow broadcasting from Happy Island. it was rather difficult to understand as it was so loud, I think he hoped it would call up the other yachties. It got a little political but in a very jovial good humoured way, but I did think I might have to restrain Rowan as he suggested everyone should just keep their bodies alkaline and reject the covid vaccine! We had our sundowner and returned to PolePole, poor chap, we saw him lock up and depart shortly after us, we were his only guests this evening.

Jonty broadcasting!
