Today was Phoebe’s birthday and we wanted to make sure we had good signal to speak to her. The time difference meant it was 1pm before we got hold of her. She is having a wonderful time, and enjoying watching loads of whales from the beach. Obviously very touristy and American coastline, they plan to go to a less developed island later on. Hannah did a wonderful blog on sisters in the animal kingdom, dedicating it to Phoebe, very clever and fun.
Interestingly it rained a lot today and some very heavy, so it was a good day to catch up on a bit of housework and admin. In the afternoon we went to the beach for a walk, we walked passed a few people enjoying drinks on the unspoilt beach. It turned out to be the dog caring volunteers we met yesterday, they were having farewell drinks for departing volunteers. Turned out the young girl was from Uganda and about Phoebe’s age. So I asked if she knew Phoebe’s friend from Oakham who was from Uganda, and of course they knew her well. They are just about to go and manage a conservancy up in northern Kenya after visiting her brother in Turks and Caicos. We only stayed for a beer and wanted to get a walk in before dark. We offered them a lift to Bequia where we are heading back to tomorrow, to pick us lost laundry and to renew our months cruising permit. They are heading to Bequia for a week’s holiday.
