Off to the island of Canouan

It was a very rolly night so we decided there wasn’t much to keep us here, the water was churned up so the visibility wasn’t great. We can’t go to Mustique the closest island as we don’t have our test results yet. We are still sending in our temperatures every morning. We got the sails up and and have a very comfortable sail over to Canouan. We decided to anchor at Charlestown bay near the main town, there were only two other yachts about. We weren’t anchored long before we were greeted by locals on boats wanting to help us out. We were a little careful as we had read reports of theft in these remoter poorer islands.

Rowan went and snorkelled nearby but the visibility wasn’t great. Late afternoon we took JeldiJeldi into town with me at the helm, it was a pretty hairy mooring at the harbour dock which was pretty dilapidated. We walked along the beach and sensed it was very much a locals area, quite poor and very quiet. Friday and Monday have been declared public holidays because of Covid, we don’t really understand why, as most of the locals are desperate for business. The good news is that we got a message to say our tests have come through and we are negative and free at last!

It was a very pleasant spot for the night away from town with lots of natural bush about. There is a huge abandoned resort on the edge of town and Rowan has read that Soho House has bought it. Apparently this island is going to be the next billionaire’s playground!

So many volcanic looking mountains
