I had a very good sleep after my shift last night. Rowan had taken over just as a squall was approaching, so it was good timing for me. The wind died down in the morning, it was time to try out the pink spinnaker on the repaired furler. Last time we had got it up the furler had come apart so we couldn’t furl it. On our crossing from NZ with Phil we had tied it all up with wool, the force of the wind just pops it open. The plan all worked, we got it up successfully, and she pulled us along in very low winds of about 8 knots, nothing above 10 knots. We had a few hours sailing nicely with her up until Rowan spotted a squall. We did not want to take any chances, so we furled her in, again it worked perfectly, what a relief! She is a big beast to have flapping around out of control.
The squall never came to much, but the wind did pick up in the afternoon to the low teens, so it was slow progress across the waters. Not a boat anywhere. Rowan spent a lot of time contacting various people about the engine and how to fix the windlass. Once again thank goodness for Stinky, actually it’s now our new Mini Stinky!
Hilda’s various spinach leaves she gave us have been quite a challenge, nothing like we have eaten before. I added some leaves to the coconut lentil curry I made yesterday, the leaves were quite glutinous where I snapped them off the tough stalks. Good taste though. Tonight we had her Pak Choi which was delicious. It seems to be a staple veg here, I have some from Luganville which has kept well. I still have a large Asian cabbage and Red cabbage from NZ that are both doing well. This is when we really appreciate all our refrigeration.
My watch to midnight was very easy and uneventful, max wind of 17knts.

The Pinkz is up!
