Yesterday afternoon we got the wonderful news that Phoebs and Dani are engaged. Such happy news that we have been itching to share with everyone, Dani had spoken to me about it when I was in NY and he’d spoken to Rowan in the UK. I nearly let the cat out the bag to Phoebs in NY…….I blame jet lag! Dani proposed to Phoebs on his favourite mountain near Lake Balaton in Hungary. We celebrated with a bottle of bubbly when Kane and Quinn came over for supper. Quinn was overjoyed too, but that might have been helped by the dog treats I bought him!

Phoebs and Dani got engaged

Phoebs captured our reaction on her phone!

Toasting the engagement with Kane
We had a very busy morning getting sorted on the boat, making water, putting things away and Rowan changing our anodes! These are sacrificial bits of metal that protects metal under water, like the propeller, from electrolytic corrosion. Rowan was bottom up with his snuba attaching the new anodes under the boat, he managed all 4 without dropping a single bolt, very impressive! I got stuck into cleaning all the floors which are filthy with sticky sea air dust. Luckily it was a pretty overcast day and the occasional gusts of wind cooled us down nicely.

The other boats at the anchorage, with the big winds yesterday we have kept our distance from other boats, happy that all the boats close to us have gone.

The beach in front of us
We got JeldiJeldi into the water and late afternoon headed to the lovely white sandy beach for a walk. The beach was full of people enjoying a relaxing Saturday afternoon. We walked further along the only road along the coast, which once we left the beach was not that pleasant as there was no sidewalk, the cars were whizzing by. We finally got to a little local hotel/pub and stopped in for a sunset drink. They had a tiny stretch of beach which was sandwiched between two big old hibiscus trees. The owner sold us two special cocktails – two extremely artificial bright blue drinks arrived at our table in the water. Apparently Curaçao is the blue spirit, with almond paste, it did taste like marzipan and was incredibly strong. I was very glad to have a sobering walk back to JeldiJeldi.

Making friends along the beach

Sunset drinks on the beach – just realised the cocktails matched Rowan’s technical fabric shirt!

Toxic looking cocktail that tasted like marzipan and nearly blew our socks off! Lovely big old hibiscus tree hanging over the water
With leftovers from last night for supper we were ready for bed by 7:30pm and have had to force ourselves to stay awake a little longer.
