The rain lashed down and the wind blew hard in between sunny spells which meant we had a few spectacular rainbows. Not a lot we could do but sit tight on board.

Our neighbours took this photo of PolePole
Our neighbours in the American Cat asked us over for evening drinks, which was an exciting break after being cooped up all day. We were shamed once again by our fellow sailors, as their boat is immaculate…….no clutter, tidy and very organised! A few drinks later we were having a very social time as the wind picked up and two more Cats came in to seek shelter. Inevitably we shared sailing stories and we were amused by their equally hairy escapades. Although they had one better than us which was when they bought their boat new from the French Boat company they went to pick it up and immediately sailed across the Bay of Biscay and had the worst storm ever. As pretty novice sailors they wondered what they had let themselves into. Turns out they got someone to sail the boat for them across the Atlantic! Surprised it didn’t put her off for ever as on top of it all she gets terribly seasick. She was rather fascinating, older than him, her second marriage but been together 20 years. She now has her own non profit company selling and buying Native American art, trying to help the artists make a living in a very deprived reservation.
We returned home to PolePole having knocked back a bottle of champagne to celebrate the new year in at 7pm! We were in bed not long afterwards, and midnight passed us by!
