Saturday 2 September – English weather arrives

It was a very rainy start to the day and I could have kicked myself as the fenders I got beautifully clean and dry are now all soaking, and this weather is to last for a few days! What a change from the hot sunshine. We decided to stay put and leave tomorrow for Tahaa, the waves have calmed down a bit but good to let them settle for another day.

We got a few chores done and then went out for a paddle in the canoe, Rowan’s concern quite rightly is if we tip we wont get back in again. He had a practice and he managed no problem so we headed out, with the current still roaring we were reluctant to cross over the channel, which was Rowan’s decision and not mine, which is unusual as I’m normally so risk averse. However we certainly or at least I need more practice as my arms were knackered by the time we got back from circling around the Catamaran that is anchored out with us in the sand.

Home made humous with my brand new mini magimix thingy, which worked like a treat. I see the instructions say do not chop ice with it, Nevil’s cocktail making on our Pacific crossing killed my old one! Pork chops went into the slow cooker for a warm evening meal, and I made two loaves of bread with proper wholemeal flour. Goodness knows what the flour was on my last batch, it certainly was a golden loaf rather than brown.

We thought we spotted a break in the drizzle so went for a little explore in JeldiJeldi into the big bay to see if we could cross under the bridge to the other side. But we soon got too wet and it was getting shallow, so we beetled off home as fast as we could.

Exploring the wild bay, it reminded us of the Chagres river in Panama but sadly not a lot of bird life and no wildlife

Just curious peaks

Returning home in the mizzle (miserable drizzle)!

Tonight is movie night, we are going to watch Mama Mia, so we can remind ourselves of the main singing role Hannah has in her Maun (Botswana) drama production. She auditioned while on the Pacific crossing with us, and has the role of the daughter! A great distraction for her as Noah leaves Bots any day now for his new role at the BBC in Bristol, where Han joins him in November.

A very picturesque evening, a charter boat behind us – what bad luck to have a week’s charter and get this weather!
