Tuesday 5 September – more rain while UK bakes!

The forecast was for rain all day and for the wind to pick up, and it has been spot on. We are having the engines serviced tomorrow at the Raiatea marina, so we decided to head across in the morning before the wind picked up. We were told to go on anchor or a mooring ball, so we aimed for an early break in the rain. It is only a couple of miles across from where we were but we got drenched in that time picking up the mooring ball on our own. Our raincoats are out and in action. We were glad to find a mooring ball, it looked like the only one available, so not all bad!

We are the red dot between Raiatea and Tahaa. We are on the edge of this menacing big red weather system!

Rain dancing around us

The rest of the day was wet – Rowan got stuck into some work and I baked some S African recipe crunchies, with my desiccated coconut that I couldn’t bring myself to leave behind at Mettingham! I made a slow cooker chipotle chilli mince dish for our rather stale tortillas that I plan to rejuvenate under the grill for super. Plenty of activity for one afternoon!

Finishing off watching The Piano tonight, and that is pretty much our exciting day!
