Off to Nonsuch Bay

We headed off before breakfast, anti clockwise round the island to Nonsuch bay. It is an enormous bay entered via a narrow-ish channel of deeper water. We turned the corner to go in and in front of us was an enormous gin palace being led in by it’s tender boats. To our surprise there were another two enormous gin palaces In the bay. This is definitely millionaires playground, Rowan was picturing them all competing to have the biggest boat with the most amount of toys, one had an enormous slide from the top into the water.

Thankfully we were heading right up into the shallow waters on the edge of the reef, far from the gin palaces. A lovely spot with a breeze uninterupted from Africa! There were a couple of gorgeous enormous old fashioned boats, they could be fakes, or have been beautifully restored. Rowan found one on the web chartering for $60k a week. Judging from my stalking on the binocs, there was a celebrity female on board, when she got into the water to swim, the staff were pacing on deck keeping an eye out for her.

It was also kite surfer’s paradise with a great wind blowing for them. Loads had hydro foils, with just the fin cutting through the water they are silent which is a bit of a surprise. The board is so high out of the water, some of them were sitting down on their boards and their feet didn’t even reach the water. Quite something as they criss crossed right in front of us, mesmerising to watch, we noticed quite a few wearing helmets.

It was steamy hot and we were so grateful for the breeze. We went in JeldiJeldi out to the reef and snorkelled along it, it was not that impressive, again the coral looking so dead. We were rather alarmed to find a local swimming with an inflatable around his waist and a spear gun. Rowan finally got his attention so that he didn’t shoot our way. He was so far from land and without a boat.

View out to Africa…..

The freezer had completely given up in the heat! So we are manfully eating our way through the contents. We had delicious steaks we bought at the deli in Prickly Bay on the BBQ. And another stunning sunset.
