Loads of great Nakedwines coverage

I was feeling rather guilty that I had curtailed Rowan’s final sailing days by rushing back to see a doc but it turns out it was just as well. Besides him being up at 2am to download the Nakedwines Results, he has been on the phone non stop. Thank goodness for our great signal here! All very positive news which is a great way to end our last few days here.

Saw this in yesterdays paper, this is what turned our boat brown!

There is a great little deli (Meat & Meet) here in the complex, run by two Canadians who live in a boat on the marina. They bake fresh croissants and bread every day and have delicious other bits and pieces. They ran a resort here for 10 years and have changed to doing just this. She was very helpful about my ear and told me the best thing was to go to the Spice Isle Imaging Center in town, they do walk in appointments with a great Cuban doctor.

We managed to get a taxi at 11 and headed over, it was lovely to be driving around all the inlets on this south side of the island, you can understand why it is such a hurricane sanctuary. Rowan went back to Port Louis marina where we did our quarantine, to give the helpful lady there a bottle of wine and to pick up our face masks that Phoebs had Fedex’d out to us (for our flights). The medical centre was on the water front just down the road from the marina, in a lovely old port building. I enjoyed watching all the local colourful fishing boats from the 3rd floor where I waited for the Cuban Doc. He confirmed I had a raging outer ear infection that was so inflamed it had completely sealed my ear canal. So he prescribed antibiotic ear drops and some powerful anti inflammatories (telling me to use them with great caution, which was very reassuring). I went down to their pharmacy on street level and had paid for everything when she got the drops out of the fridge and told me how to use them in my eye! When I pointed out I needed it for my ear she was very apologetic and said they didn’t have ear drops. She then very sweetly proceeded to call every pharmacy on the island (ok they don’t have many but it was well over 10 calls) – sadly there are no antibiotic ear drops on the entire island! I did say to Rowan I’m sure eye drops will be just as good, the pharmacist finally called the doc to ask what else could be prescribed and he said exactly the same as me, just use the eye drops. So fingers crossed!

We had thought of doing a bit of exploring but I didn’t want to risk the drops getting hot, as they need to be kept in the fridge, so we went back to PolePole. It turned out I couldn’t get the drops in my ear, they just ran out, as my ear was so blocked. It took a bit of googling and Rowan jiggling and pumping my ear to get a few drops through! What a saga. Luckily there is a lovely pool here and we had a relaxing afternoon on the loungers with me wallowing in the cool water without getting my head anywhere near it.

The restaurant was open tonight so we decided to eat in and booked a table closest to the beach. So funny….. it turned out we were the only ones in for dinner!
