We decided on a quiet day and to stay another night here so that Rowan could recover from his long day yesterday. It is such a lovely protected beach it is hard to beat as an anchorage. We have to get our green garden off our hull to enter NZ otherwise we will be send away to do it. Rowan has done the vast majority, just one side I needed to help with and then go around and do the polishing off the missed bits and tidy up the outlet pipes. A couple of hours in the morning and evening meant I gave my bingo wings a good work out. Luckily Rowan has bought these clamps that you suck onto the hull and can hold onto, it makes all the difference. Wearing a mask and snorkel are essential so you don’t get the green slime in your mouth, I wear ear plugs too! I had a cute 10cm little fish follow me the whole way around, he must have enjoyed something coming off the hull. Also amazing how many tiny crabs are hiding around the outlet pipes at the water level. How they hang on when we are moving is amazing!
Rowan has also worked out we have a good weather window coming up to NZ leaving Saturday. He has had it confirmed by MetBob and the other weather guru. All the yachtie chat is about leaving for NZ this week end, there will be an armada of boats heading south. Including our friends Greg and Jan who are in Fiji. Roy Rowan’s cousin is flying in to join us on Friday.
In the evening we went and had drinks with Navisana, they have a Nautitech like our old boat, which is why Rowan and Chet had connected earlier. Last time we saw him was in Bora Bora, his partner was in Ibiza at a party/wedding! 5 flights got her from Ibiza to BoraBora! Jessie is Dutch and I presume a lot younger than Chet, who is also born in Kenya! She is doing her PHD while sailing and has a keen interest in wine. She seems like great fun and a real trouper as she is relatively new to sailing, whereas Chet has circumnavigated already in a monohull.
We returned to PolePole and the smells of our slow cooker which had cooked our rather dodgy looking chicken all afternoon. It turned out to be delicious with plenty of garlic, turmeric, ginger, sweet potatoes and onions. Our fresh supplies are getting very low.
