Surrounded by fisherman

We had planned to move to the capital city Fort-de-France today to get some washing done at the Laundromat and stock up with provisions at a supermarket, but I think the heat took over and we decided to be lazy and go tomorrow!

We’ve been watching the endless fisherman around picking up their traps, which are attached to empty plastic bottles and containers, marking the spot. A nightmare for sailors as they are hard to see and likely to wrap around props and rudders. We are surrounded by them. One lot in particular really caught our eye as they had this huge orange gizmo that they look under the water with to find their enormous traps. They have nothing attaching them to the surface so the fisherman must just have a pretty good idea where they are. They have a big spikey thing that grabs the huge cage and they haul it out onto the boat. From what we could see they were not catching many fish at all in them. Rowan has asked a few if they had any fish to sell and nobody has.

I finally persuaded Rowan we should go into the village and have a little walk and see if we could stock up on more of the delicious local eggs. Sadly the shop was closed so we went for a little walk instead, not that far but up a very steep road, so a good bit of exercise.

Doesn’t look like Macron is hugely popular here!

Can just spot PolePole, the boat on the right

We started watching the film ‘The Ship that Rocked’ which was another very funny Richard Curtis movie, but we were both so tired by 9:15 we went to bed and never managed to finish watching it.
