Osprey delights

We set off in good time this morning which allowed us to go and do a bit of exploring at the far end of our road. We had heard that there was another beach to find, and took off down a path which did have a rusty old chain across but easy to step over, and there we found it. It has obviously been a good spot for conch fishing as there were thousands of conch shells on the beach. We managed to walk back along the beach and then cut through a huge development site, that looks abandoned, back to the road. Rather sad as they have cleared all the bush leaving just bare scraped earth. The boards at the entrance to the site look like it is a hotel development. I’m sure after Corona Virus there is no chance of it being completed.

Beach littered with conch shells

Just as we were nearing home, just inside the curfew timing, we saw an Osprey perched on an electricity pole with a big fish. It was right on the side of the road and he was very aware of us, keeping an eagle eye on us but not budging an inch. Sad we didn’t have a better camera on us.

The Governor has made Wednesdays and Sundays absolute lockdown days, so no shops open, to give essential workers time off. So I couldn’t do the shop today and will go tomorrow, I had a busy day doing laundry instead. The excitement was a new British Catamaran came into the marina today, the captain is from Aberdeen and he has two crew with him, his wife and kids have been out, but they don’t do long passages. He had been planning to do the same as us, but has also opted to sail back home. They have just come in to get supplies to last them until they’re home, setting off in a couple of days.

We then had our afternoon swim keeping very close to the boats. Very sociable with the Beccles crew joining us, Regina the German lady and Denis the American managed to woggle his way over. We are gobsmacked that he and his wife are attempting to sail to Grenada, as they both look physically awkward and neither of them can swim. They have sold up everything and are on this pretty old ropey boat, they will become ‘Live Aboarders’ in Grenada along with hundreds of others apparently.

We then got invited to our first drinks aboard another boat, Martin and Stephanie the British couple who arrived a couple of days ago. Stephanie is Welsh, tiny and very sweet, I think she said she is early 70’s. He reminds us of the ‘Coughing Major’, so posh and rather an enigma to us, and a good few years younger than Stephanie. We were of course breaking our social distancing rules but great fun as Stephanie had produced a real spread of nibbles, under blue fairy lights. She has great music taste and made Rowan very happy by playing Rodriquez (Sugar Man) at the end.
