Thursday 8 June - birthday boy

Updated: Jun 11, 2023

Poor Rowan had a whole lot of calls booked in all morning, so it was challenging for the kids and family to get hold of him. It felt like we had already started celebrating his birthday on Tuesday at lunch, which Glen and Oana delayed their departure for. They've enjoyed it so much here, they have delayed departing again. Jan thought we should celebrate once again on Rowan's actual birthday, so dinner and a game of 'Shithead' was scheduled for the evening on PolePole. I spent most of the day preparing for supper. I had defrosted overnight our last enormous Galapagos chicken, which I put in the slow cooker with lots of curry spices. Plus I made a very chocolatey cake, with ginger and pecan nuts (from Muden!) to put the bday candles into.

The evening started with Sangria that Glen and Oana brought over instead of cocktails, then we had Jan's delicious tuna tartare with mango and avocado, plus some amazing seaweed from the market that was like little green bunches of bursting fish eggs. My chicken curry which turned out to be a little under spiced having thought I had overdone it! Before pudding we had a couple of rounds of the card game Shithead, which we had to teach Glen and Oana. It really is a fun game because your ultimate last 3 cards are all down to pure luck, so it is never that obvious who will be the Shithead. There are no winners it is just the person who loses who is the Shithead! Jan has a Shithead hat which I have had to wear in the Caribbean, the hat stayed on board Viridian tonight as both Jan and Greg won the hat. I hope we didn't keep Patrice up, yachties all seem to be in bed by 9pm. I cleared 4 bottles of wine away at 11pm, so can't imagine we were that quiet. Luckily the restaurant we are opposite had a very good live band until 10pm. It is very enjoyable having the band play in the evenings as it is the perfect distance from the boat. Close enough to really appreciate but not too loud, so you can carry on a conversation. It was a very enjoyable evening and a great way to celebrate the start of Rowan's 62nd year!

Mid Shithead!

The bday cake, not sure how the candle lights are reflecting on Rowan's chin!

What a lovely protracted birthday. So glad you still have Muden pecans.
