Preparing to leave Long Island at last

It was a cloudy day with odd squalls of rain, which meant Rowan failed to tempt me snorkelling on the reef. It looked a little far out with some big rollers on the other side, so off he went on his own with his sling. He came back about an hour later without a catch, the visibility wan't good. But he was very chuffed with the way Jeldi Jeldi's anchor held!

We have decided to leave at around 2am, to motor east in the calm night seas, so that we can sail south with the winds avoiding a few tricky islands. The prevailing east winds are set for the next week before another storm. It would have been ideal to leave this morning but after our little engine scare, Rowan ordered loads of Volvo spare parts that are being flown in this afternoon. We did a little preparation for our departure like stocking an emergency dry bag for next to the life raft. The special waterproof distress signal torch we discovered had no batteries in it and typically that is the one size we don't have on board. We've had to sacrifice one of our head torches in a ziplock!

We ordered a taxi from the resort to take us to the airport and made good use of their free laundry service while we were out. Our taxi driver was very garrulous, but luckily his amazing deep voice made very easy listening. He had his gorgeous little daughter with him who was off sick from school with tooth ache. Hmmm she looked like she had him wrapped around her little finger! Finally our parcel arrived on the plane 40 minutes late.

Feeling all prepared for our 2am start, we had an early night, after dining on pork pieces from the Saturday's farmer's market. Yum!
